From humble beginnings as a pastime for bored Scottish shepherds, golf has evolved into one of the most popular activities in the world, with players and courses in nearly every country in the world. According to some estimations, there are around 60 million golfers on the planet, equivalent to the entire population of a country like the United Kingdom!

Golf has also been played on the Moon, which is a unique achievement among sports! In 1971, Alan Shepard, an astronaut on board Apollo 14 took two balls with him on his trip. He tried driving both and, although his first effort was shanked, he reckoned that his second travelled over 200 yards; a decent distance even for a professional at the time! What became of that particular ball we don’t know; perhaps it’s still up there for the next intrepid explorer to discover?

Presidents have also been known for their love of golf: Dwight D. Eisenhower even installed a putting green on the grounds of the White House during his tenure in the Oval Office, while we don’t need to go into detail about how much Donald Trump loves the game!
